Cambridge Gurdwara

Inaugural Ceremony of Cambridge Gurdwara

Starts: January 20 @ 10:00am

To celebrate the formal opening of the first Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) in Cambridgeshire, the Cambridge Sikh Society requests the pleasure of your company on Sunday 20th January 2013 from 10am – 3pm as per the programme below.

As you may be aware, the Cambridge Sikh community recently acquired premises in Arbury Court, for the establishment of the first Sikh Temple (Gurdwara) in the City of Cambridge, and indeed throughout Cambridgeshire. We are now pleased and excited to announce that renovation work (Phase 1) is now complete and that with the Guru’s blessing the formal inauguration of the building will take place on Sunday 20th January 2013, as per the programme below.

The British Sikh community in Cambridgeshire has continued to develop over the years, benefiting like other communities from learned overseas visitors to our great Universities. Collectively they have contributed significantly to the cultural, educational and economic development of the City.  Indeed, ever since Sardar Kapur Singh, our first National Professor of Sikhism, graduated with Tripos in the Moral Sciences from Cambridge many decades ago, the founding of the Sikh communities first place of worship has been keenly anticipated. Cambridge Sikh Society has been able, with the Guru’s blessing, and the many well wishers across all communities, to make good on this long held aspiration.

We have also had valuable advice, encouragement and administrative support from local government, charities and faith based groups and it is only proper that we recognise this support from the wider community at our opening ceremony, together with invited Sikh scholars and dignitaries who will be celebrating the occasion with us.

Coincidentally, we will also be celebrating the birth of Siri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the founder of the Sikh Nation (Khalsa) and we hope you will join us to mark the birth of a new era for Cambridge Sikhs.
